2019 Challenge

This year I have

challenged myself to

paint 1 painting

per week in the

style of one of the

historical Top 100

artists.  I am trying to

use the techniques, medium and colours that they used but the goal is to refrain from copying them.  The time restriction of 1 week puts limitations on the oil painting and those artists who produced very detailed works

1 week - 1 artist

Quiet Beauty

Week 18 - Jackson Pollock (1912 - 1956)

“The modern artist is working with space and time and expressing his feelings rather than illustrating.”

“Technique is just a means of arriving at a statement.”

“I want to express my feelings rather than illustrate them”

Rise above it

Week 19 - El Greco (1541 - 1614)

“You must study the Masters but guard the original style that beats within your soul and put to sword those who would try to steal it.”

The Lion will lie down with the Lamb

Week 21 - Jean Francois Millet (1814-1875)

“If you could see how beautiful the forest is! I sometimes slip away there at days end after my work day and I always return overwhelmed. It has such a calm, such a terrible grandeur, to the point that I am surprised that I feel genuinely afraid. I don't know what the trees says amongst themselves, but they say something we don't speak the same language.”
