SHAMAL
ART

Thank you for visiting my website.

Those of you who know me are aware that I have been actively engaged in support of refugees, the displaced, and individuals who are in modern day slavery for a number of years.  I am excited to share that I have been working for much of this year to create a series of pieces that will be auctioned to raise funds for the International Justice Ministry's important international work in October 2025.

These pieces reflect individuals who are effectively 'invisible' due to societal structures and I have sought to reflect their resilience and strength under difficult circumstances through a material, symbolic and interpretative lens.

Each piece tells a story, my hope is that they will invite reflection, stir empathy, and inspire action.   Please take time to look through my portfolio.  100% of the proceeds of the pieces in the auction:  50% of the proceeds of the sales of the Brick and Medusa Series: and 10% of the proceeds of any other sale through this site will go directly to IJM.

Your bid/purchase is more than a gift—it’s a powerful act of hope. Together, we can help restore dignity and freedom to those who need it most.

Born in Bahrain, educated in the UK and living in Canada, Sue Howard is now a Nova Scotia based visual artist. With an eclectic career and travel path behind her Sue uses her wealth of international and interpersonal history to create pieces that offer complex visual narratives.  Using a process driven approach where the materials themselves carry emotional weight Sue layers and redacts back repeatedly to excavate the hidden understory.  In doing so viewers are invited in to a dialogue rooted in ambiguity, memory and transformation.
