2019 Challenge

This year I have

challenged myself to

paint 1 painting

per week in the

style of one of the

historical Top 100

artists.  I am trying to

use the techniques, medium and colours that they used but the goal is to refrain from copying them.  The time restriction of 1 week puts limitations on the oil painting and those artists who produced very detailed works

1 week - 1 artist

Quiet Beauty

Acrylic on Canvas

Week 30 - Wassily Kandinsky (1866 - 1944)

“Color is the keyboard, the eyes are the harmonies, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul”

“Every work of art is the child of its age and, in many cases, the mother of our emotions. It follows that each period of culture produces an art of its own which can never be repeated."s”

Sails

Week 32 - Francis Bacon (1909 -1992)

"Painting is a duality and abstract painting is an entirely aesthetic thing. It always remains on one level. It is only really interesting in the beauty of its patterns or its shapes."

"All painting is an accident. But it’s also not an accident, because one must select what part of the accident one chooses to preserve.."

"All colours will agree in the dark.."

Rodin's Thinker

No Week 5

No quotes

TBD

Week 31 - Paul Gauguin (1848 - 1903)

“I shut my eyes in order to see.”

"Art is either plagiarism or revolution."

"It is the eye of ignorance that assigns a fixed and unchangeable colour to every object; beware of this stumbling block."

Release

Week 33 - Nicolas Poussin(1594-1664)

“The purpose of art is delectation>"

The idea of beauty does not descend into matter unless this is prepared as carefully as possible.  This preparation consists of three things: arrangement, measure, and aspect or form."

"Colours in painting are as allurements for persuading the eyes, as the sweetness of meter is in poetry..”
