2019 Challenge

This year I have

challenged myself to

paint 1 painting

per week in the

style of one of the

historical Top 100

artists.  I am trying to

use the techniques, medium and colours that they used but the goal is to refrain from copying them.  The time restriction of 1 week puts limitations on the oil painting and those artists who produced very detailed works

1 week - 1 artist

Quiet Beauty

Acrylic on Canvas

Week 22 - Eugene Delacroix (1798 - 1863)

“Nature is a dictionary; one draws words from it.”

“If one considered life as a single loan, one would perhaps be less exacting.  We possess actually nothing, everything goes through us.”

“Do all the work you can; that is the whole philosophy of the good way of life”

Uncertain times

Week 24 - Fra Angelico(1395 -1455)

"He who wishes to paint Christ's story must live with Christ.  He who does Christ's work must stay with Christ always.  I can paint pictures but I cannot rule men."

Me, myself and I

Week 23 - Piet Mondrian (1872 - 1944)

“Things are beautiful or ugly only in time and space.  The new man's vision being liberted from these two factors, all is unified in one unique beauty.”

"Just as pure abstract art is not dogmatic, neither is it decorative."

"It is not important to make many pictures but that I have one picture right."

And then?

Week 25 - Diego Velazquez (1599 - 1660)

“I would rather be the first painter of common things than second in higher art.”

"Raphael, to be plain with you, for I prefer to be candid and outspoken, does not please me at all...It is Titian that bears the banner."

"A human will only grasp the realms of a parent's love when he experiences for himself the like>"
