Harnessed

Writer: Sue's MusingsSue's Musings

The gate slides, rattling, clanging, heavy through my hands

....allowing me entrance

They stand beyond, motionless but for the occasional swish of a tail

....ignoring my advance

He has finished eating, just a few elusive grains remain stuck to the base of the concrete trough

He watches my approach

... expectant

As I proffer my hand he plunges his velvet nose into my palm

I feel his soft lips on my life line

...lingering to extend

Leaning against him the warmth of my smooth skin mirrors his

...shared heat

I throw the reins over his head and gently ease the bit into his waiting mouth

He rolls the cool metal between his teeth

Grinding with familiarity

Harnessed.
