Medusa Series - these pieces were inspired by my research into the realities of individuals who are often overlooked or rendered 'invisible' by societal structures, in this case the survivors of sexual slavery.

I sought to represent their resilience through material, process and narrative; I used the mythological figure of Medusa as a metaphor for survival and transformation in the aftermath of sexual slavery and abuse.  Medusa is often misrepresented as monstrous, has become a cipher for feminine power and resistance in the face of past trauma.
In these pieces I have worked primarily with acrylic and paper on canvas.

I used the symbol of the snake which is emblematic of rebirth and danger. Using paper I incorporated the physical nature of the shed skin evoking both vulnerability and renewal.  This material choice became a tactile extension of the Medusa myth, suggesting that survival involves not just endurance, but transformation.

I hope that you find that these pieces are both impactful and resonate with you.

50% of the proceeds of this series of paintings will be donated to the International Justice Ministry.  Please contact me directly for further information.
