2019 Challenge

This year I have

challenged myself to

paint 1 painting

per week in the

style of one of the

historical Top 100

artists.  I am trying to

use the techniques, medium and colours that they used but the goal is to refrain from copying them.  The time restriction of 1 week puts limitations on the oil painting and those artists who produced very detailed works

1 week - 1 artist

Quiet Beauty

Acrylic on Canvas

Week 42 - David Hockney (1937 - )

“Art  has to move you and design does not, unless its a good design for a bus.”

“We live in an age where the artist is forgotten.  He is a researcher.  I see myself that way."

"Listening is a positive act: you have to put yourself out to do it."

Blue Nails

Week 44 - William Blake (1757 -1827)

"Art is the tree of life. Science is the tree of death."

"Coluring does not depend upon where the colours are put, but on where the lights and darks are put, and all depends on form and outline, and where that is put."

"When nations grow old, the arts grow cold, and commerce settles on every tree."

No Week 5

No quotes

Week 43 - Henri Matisse (1869 - 1954)

“Creativity takes courage.”

"There are always flowers for those who want to see them."

"I do not literally paint that table, but the emotion it produces upon me."

"It has bothered me all of my life that I do not paint like anyone else."

Week 45 - Winslow Homer   (1836-1910)

“You will see, in the future I will live by my watercolours"

"The sun will not rise and set without my notice, and thanks."

"This making studies and then taking them home touse them is only half right.  You get composition, but you lose the freshness: you miss the subtle, and to the artist, the finer characteristics of the scene itself.”
